HEDCO Building (1939)

Photograph of HEDCO Building. This building was designed by Cannon and Mullen architects. In 1938, this land was deeded to the U. S. Government by the University of Utah. Prior to the construction of this building and building 056, the U. S. Bureau of Mines was housed in building 024 along with the University's Department of Mines. In contrast, these buildings were the property of and for the use of the Bureau of Mines. These buildings are connected by ramps and were built to function as one building. In 1981, the Bureau of Mines property was officially deeded to the University of Utah along with the buildings. This building was officially named after the HEDCO Foundation in 1982 as a result of their contribution. Exactly what HEDCO means is still unknown, even after consulting countless sources.
