Physical Therapy (1943) Originally it was a mess hall for the Army.7, This mess hall and the accompanying barracks (now demolished) were built specifically for WACs (Women's Army Corps), however, according to one source, the expected WAC companies never arrived.21 Instead, they were occupied for five months in 1943 by 220 WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service). For the remainder of the war, these barracks and mess hall were only used periodically as overflow space. The mess hall was acquired by the University of Utah circa 1948.4, 18 It was first used for storage when it was acquired by the University and in 1959 and 1961 it was listed as an Explosive Research Lab.10, 17, 29 It was assigned to Mineral Sciences prior to 1971 and used for an Isotope Geology Lab with one room for explosive research. In 1971 it was reassigned to the Physical Plant Operations' Electrical, Key, and Refrigeration shops. In 1977 it was assigned to the College of Health to be used for Physical Therapy. The name of this building was then changed from "Class Room" to "Physical Therapy" in 1978.4
