Hospital Engineering Machine Shop (1943) The building had been connected like 507 and 508 and the removal of the connection greatly altered its architectural integrity. All of the buildings in this area were connected by such corridors prior to 1991. A former storehouse for the Army, this structure was acquired by the University of Utah in 1948.4, 7 In 1959, and possibly earlier, it was being used for Physics Research and in 1961 it housed the Solid State Physical Library.17, 29 Similar to other buildings in this area, in 1969 this building was being used by the Physical Plant and Operations.25 It was Printing Services prior to 1977 at which time it became a medical laboratory.26 517 A is part of 517 and in 1977 it housed Medical Records.26 The Machine began occupying a portion of 517 in 1977 along with Health Sciences.25 Building 517 was Hospital Energy in 1985 and in 1989 it was used for institutional support as the Machine Shop. 4, 18
